The Grand Palais is located on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. It was built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900 and dedicated “by the French Republic to the glory of French art”.
The main space has an iron, steel, and glass barrel-vaulted roof. Its glass roof is the largest in Europe, reaching 45 meters (150 feet) high under its dome and spanning about 200 meters (650 feet) in length.
Whilst much is made about the engineering of the structure its real gift is its beautiful green and gold paintwork. It’s quite breathtaking, Infact it used over 60 tonnes of “mignonette” green paint
